Pink Wampee is a very rare and unique coldy hardy tropical fruit tree native to India and Southeast Asia. Pink Wampee trees grow up to 25 feet tall and produce giant clusters of flowers and small pink berries. The translucent lipstick pink fruit has a soft texture and unique flavor that is sweet and citrusy with notes of fennel, coriander, licorice, and coffee.

The show stopping color of the berries makes it an excellent garnish. Pink Wampee grows excellently in subtropical and tropical climates but is also cold hardy into the mid or even lower 20's.

Medicinally, in Thailand and Southeast Asia, Pink Wampee is cultivated for the use of it's bark, branches, and roots as a potherb for variety of ailments.

Monstera deliciosa is a very ornamental perennial fruiting vine plant native to tropical Mexico and Central America. It is grown both indoors and out and regarded as a highly sought after exotic tropical houseplant.

Hard and beautiful, the Monstera vine has large glossy splitting leaves, and it is sometimes known as Swiss Cheese Plant or Split Leaf Philodendron. Planted outdoors in the shade Monstera will thrive for many years climbing up large oak trees and producing large white flowers.

Monstera produces a long fruit that tastes like a combination of banana, apple, pineapple! The white flesh of the interior is the only edible part of the fruit. The outer scaley shell will start to peal away when it is ripe. Fruit is high in Potassium and Vitamin C and low in calories.

Sow Exotic's Wild Florida Guava is a dwarf-growing subtropical to tropical fruit tree native to the Americas. This variety was found growing and naturalized in our area, here in Central Florida. It produces large, delicious yellow guava fruits with a deep pink flesh.

Like most guava varieties, contain a high amount of vitamin A and folate. It also contains vitamins C (even greater amounts are in the skin) and B-complex vitamins as well as minerals like potassium.

Awapuhi Shampoo Ginger (Zingiber zerumbet)

Zingiber zerumbet, commonly known as Shampoo Ginger, is perennial from the ginger family of plants. It grows great in moist, shaded, forested areas in tropical areas around the world such as it's native home Hawaii. It is a deciduous ginger that goes dormant in the winter. Both the leaves and the pine cone-like inflorescence's arise each year in the summer from underground rhizomes. The floral bracts are green when young and red when mature.

The flowers and rhizomes are very fragrant, with a pleasant warm ginger spice scent. They produce a red juice that collects inside of the flower cone. It is slightly sudsy (saponins!) and the cones can be squeezed and used for shampoo, hence the name of the plant! Collecting the sap into a paste and applying it to the hair can help brighten and condition it. The sap can also be massaged into the skin. The root is edible and traditionally used in native medicine, but is bitter to the taste, because of saponins, and seldom used. This plant and extracts of it are used in several popular industrial hair cleaning and conditioning products. Shampoo Ginger is a great plant for those seeking a natural solution to hygiene and hair care.

The leaves and leaf stalks are edible, and can be used in cooking to impart a ginger flavor and taste to pork, fish, and other sources of meat. Traditionally meat is wrapped in the leaves and placed in underground ovens to cook.

Medicinally the plant has several well researched uses including as an anti-inflammatory, for digestive issues, for treating diarrhea, and for treating intestinal worms. Usually, the leaves and rhizomes are macerated, powdered, and combined with alcohol as a tincture for use in Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Hoja Santa, also commonly known as Mexican Pepperleaf, Veracruz Pepper, Rootbeer Plant or False Kava is a hardy perennial herb. Hoja Santa is native to northern South American and Mexico. It's native name means "Sacred Leaf".

Giant, velvety heart-shaped leaves grow to 10 inches or more in length. Both leaves and flowers are very aromatic and full of flavor. The flavor is very complex, with delightly notes of licorice, eucalyptus, sassafras, anise, nutmeg, mint, tarragon, and black pepper. The plant spreads from the tuber and will quickly sprout many shoots.

Large, fragrant leaves are used fresh in Mexican cuisine for tamales, wrapping fish or meat and as an essential ingredient in true Mole Verde, the green sauce that originated in the Oaxaca region of Mexico. Fresh Hoja Santa can also be chopped to flavor soups and salads. Despite their culinary popularity, fresh leaves are very difficult to find in grocery stores or at markets, so growing this hardy plant at home is a great idea.

Generally the shrub is maintained through clipping to keep it at a manageable height of 5 feet or less. If left undisturbed in it's natural habitat, the plant will grow into a giant tree! It features broad leaves and fragrant white flowers. Green Tea is the most popular drink in the world, and has been cultivated since ancient times. The secrets of the Tea plant were guarded for centuries by the Chinese who prized it as an economic crop, essential to their regional trade. Camellia sinesis is native to East Asia, the Indian subcontinent, and southeast Asia where it is cultivated in tropical and subtropical climates.

The quality of the Tea leaf depends on at what point in the plant's life cycle the leaf is harvested, and it's method of preparation. This results in many variations of Tea including Green Tea, White Tea, and Oolong, Black Tea, and others. All these variations are achieved from the same plant, Camellia sinensis and it's cultivars.

Some of the medicinal benefits of Green Tea include as an astringent, and as a nerve tonic. It's claimed to help eyesight. Green Tea is excellent for the treatment of infections in the digestinal tract, usually through the consumption of 2-3 hot cups of the drink throughout the day until symptoms subsist. Naranjilla, also known as Lulo, Naranjita, or Lulum in it's native Central and South America, is a unique fruiting shrub. Naranjilla produces a small, round, orange fruit that has a flavor combo of pineapple, rhubarb and lime. It is sold in fresh produce markets in it's native areas, where it is used to make a popular juice.

The thick woody stems and soft heart-shaped foliage of the Naranjilla are coated with bright purple hairs when the plant is young and long spines when it is mature.

The Mexican Ghost Pipe Cactus, also known as Organ Pipe, is a fruit-bearing cactus that produces sweet deep pinkish-purple fruit known as Pitahaya Dulce.

Large, gorgeous flower buds in lavender, pale white, and pink will open for weeks at a time. Flowers usually open and are pollinated at night. Long greenish gray slender curving stems grow from the base of the cactus. It will usually grow to 15-20 feet but can reach lengths up to 30 feet.

The prized red fruits are large and spiny, and ripen in late summer. When they mature, they lose their spines and open to show an edible, red pulp. Can be eaten fresh, dried, turned into jelly, make into syrup or fermented into a wine-like drink.

The Barbados Gooseberry is a super rare and unique leafy cactus vine also known as Blade-apple Cactus, Lemonvine, or Rose Cactus.

The Hummingbird Tree, also known as Vegetable Hummingbird or Agati, is a small, fast-growing mimosoid tree with large beautiful flowers native to Malaysia and Australia. The root, leaf, bark, and flower all have medicinal properties. In Vietnam, Laos, and Thailand, the white flowers, young bean pods, and leaves are cooked and eaten as vegetables. It's very attractive to pollinators and birds as well!

Calea Zacatechichi, also known as Calea ternifolia, is a flowering plant from the Daisy family. It is commonly found in its native habitat on exposed and disturbed hillsides in Mexico and Central America. The plant grows to be a small bush or shrub, and features small yellow-white flowers. It goes by the common names of Mexican Dream Herb and Bitter Grass (due to it's bitter tasting leaves). The word Zacatechichi is a Nahuatl word that means 'bitter'.

Calea Zacatechichi is one of the plants that make up the Aztec Entheogenic Plant complex- the many plants that the ancient Aztec peoples viewed as sacred, and used within their religious ceremonies for divination and healing. The plant is revered for it's ability to induce powerful, vivid, memorable, and sometimes strangely prophetic dreams. The traditional native use is to smoke the dried leaf material in a cigarette prior to going to bed, or as a boiled tea. Those interested in the dreaming effects of this plant should note that there is variation in the strength of these effects, depending on the strain of the plant, and the concentration of active constituents within the plant.

Calea Zacatechichi is an unique and interesting plant, perfect to add to any hobbyists garden! This is the bitter variety. Our plants have performed well in sandy soil with full sun.

Gotu Kola grows wild in wetland areas and is considered a tropical plant despite hardiness to Zone 7. It loves moist, fertile soil and is suitable for water gardens.

Azadirachta indica, commonly known as Neem, Nimtree or Indian lilac, is a tree in the mahogany family. Neem is a tall, fast-growing evergreen tree with highly attractive broad-leafed branches that make full, dense, beautiful canopies.

Neem grows in tropical to semi-tropical regions and is native to the Indian subcontinent (i.e. India, Nepal, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Maldives). It's olive-shaped fruit and seeds are the source of Neem oil which is cultivated for antioxidant, anti-fungal, and anti-inflammatory properties.

This heirloom Broadleaf Thai Papaya produces long, sweet, and succulent fruit! Grocery store Papaya is often old and near rotten, so fresh from your own yard is always best - and trust us, it's a whole new experience. The Kaek-Dam's papaya fruit can be eaten like a veggie when it's young and crisp (traditionally sliced thin and used in salads) or when it's more mature, ripe and deliciously juicy.

The Kaek-Dam Papaya fruit can become very long and large, providing a tasty treat for several people. The true will start to produce sizable fruit when it reaches around 4' tall. Wild Dagga also known as Lion's Tale or Wild Dagga, is an perennial evergreen herbaceous shrub native to South Africa. Highly ornamental bright yellow-orange flowers sit atop long stems with leathery toothed leaves. Wild Dagga flowers are very attractive pollinating insects and birds.

Dagga was traditionally used by various tribes in Africa as a smoking herb. It's effects are comparable to cannabis in that they provide a mellow and relaxed sensation. The effects of this inebriation are mild, and Dagga is not a scheduled substance in the United States. It is commonly used in many legal over the counter smoking blends in combination with other herbs. It is sometimes mixed with tobacco.

The purported medicinal effects of Dagga include anti-inflammatory, hypoglycemic, and antinociceptive. It is used traditionally in the treatment of tuberculosis, diabetes, and epilepsy.

Wild Dagga is of the Leonurus (mint) family of plants and very closely related to two other Sow Exotic favorites; Klip Dagga and Siberian Motherwort.

Rhus copallinum is the scientific name of the native Florida Sumac species. It also goes by the name of 'Winged Sumac', 'Shining Sumac', or 'Dwarf Sumac'. All the Sumac species (Rhus) belong to the Cashew family of plants. Rhus copallinum is native to Eastern North America.

The Florida Native Sumac is a small, fast growing, low-maintenance tree/shrub that is very tough and hardy! It is capable of resisting drought, and is a frequent pioneer of disturbed areas. This tree produces a low hanging, well-crowned and spread out canopy, that attracts a lot of birds and wildlife. It is because of these reasons, that Rhus copallinum is one of the top species of trees recommended for land reclamation and rehabilitation projects. It's great for urban areas because it can thrive in containers and areas with poor drainage and pollution.

Rhus copallinum is a deciduous tree capable of growing up to heights of 15 feet. It sports dark green leaves that will turn bright orange-red during the Fall. Native Florida Sumac is appreciated as an ornamental plant due to it's brilliant fall foliage. Rhus copallinum will produce berries that taste like pink lemonade, and which can be used to make tea, jelly, or a lovely natural dye!

This rare yellow Dragon fruit variety is available at Sow Exotic for a limited time! Dragon Fruit is a cactus native to parts of South America where it is typically known as Pitahaya. The cactus is an ornamental climbing vine, that features a large and impressive flower. It's flesh is snow white and tastes like a fruity pillowy cloud of deliciousness.

This plant comes from the family of 'moonlight cacti' indigenous to the Caribbean, Central America, and South America. Many of the cacti in this family have flowers that only bloom at nighttime, activated by the moon's light.

Dragon Fruit plants are self pollinating and easily grown. But keep in mind they require certain nutrient requirements to thrive and produce decent fruit. The best soil for these plants is a high moisture soil with lots of humus.

Gynura procumbens is a plant in the Daisy family, that has the common name of 'Longevity Spinach'. It is native to China, Southeast Asia, and parts of Africa where it is known locally as 'Sambungal' or 'Sambung Nyawa' which translates into English as "Life Extender". It is a fast growing, herbaceous, perennial plant that makes an excellent micro-green!

This tropical and sub tropical plant tolerates a variety of different soils, but grows best in the shade. It will produce excellent green leaves and tubular dandelion like flowers. This plant grows easily and readily from cuttings!

Longevity Spinach has several uses including culinary and medicinal. The young leaves and shoots of the plants are generally the consumed edible parts of the plant. Gynura procumbens has been studied and assessed for it's reported abilities to regulate insulin levels, cholesterol, and blood pressure. Research has shown that compounds in the plant are antimicrobial, anti-carcinogenic, and anti-inflammatory. It is also sometimes used as a ground cover in gardens and farms for chicken and other livestock.
